“The game of Capoeira”

Capoeira is commonly understood as a blend of dance and fight. But for us it is a lot more than that. Capoeira is game, a type of language; it is a dialogue between two bodies. This print is a graphic interpretation of two famous mestres, João Grande and João Pequeno, in the middle of a game of Capoeira. As João Pequeno (left) uses a “rabo de arraia” to inquire his fellow player, João Grande (right) prepares to respond with the same move. The “Rabo de Arraia” is one of Capoeira’s trade mark moves.
